JUDI DENCH BROUGHT her to life on the silver screen and Steve Coogan brought her to the Golden Globes but Ireland’s own Philomena Lee was strutting her stuff on the Oscars Red Carpet last night.
The tale of her search for her son – who was adopted against her wishes in the 1950s -was nominated in four categories, including Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
It may have lost out to 12 Years A Slave, but the nomination alone was a victory for both Lee and screenwriter Steve Coogan, who starred as the journalist who helped the Limerick-born woman find out what had happened to her son.

The internet was delighted to see Lee in the Kodak Theatre, but they weren’t long forgetting Leonardo DiCaprio’s little slip up with her name at the Golden Globes either.
